Personally I use MyExpenses. It is FOSS but You have to do a small donation (4.30€) to have DAVx support

Actual Budget went open-source a while back! It’s self-hostable and fantastic alternative to YNAB. YNAB’s budgeting philosophy has garnered a bit of a cult following, and I highly recommend their budget method (which is a mix of envelope and zero-based budgeting, iirc). Actual Budget is built to mimic YNAB, so it’s perfect. There’s a community of contributors adding features. There’s an option to encrypt your budget, so that whatever server you host it on cannot see it. I highly recommend this app.

Another up-and-coming alternative to YNAB is Budget with Buckets, which is not free. But does have an unlimited free trial lol, and a good privacy policy. It’s still developing though, but it is good!

You will hate me for this. Any spread sheet app, google Sheets , Excel, or open-source. Spend time doing it yourself because focusing on your finances matters more than just getting an automated solution that you can simply ignore or not understand completely. Don’t worry too much about it. Make a tab for income, a tab for recurring expenses, and a tab for all your transactions. Take a year or two, building it up. It will take time to build a good history and for you to refine your plan better(easier when you are focusing on creating the spreadsheet vs. taking a premade solution). Also I suggest thinking long term as much as possible, like a yearly plan instead of monthly. If you get lucky and your life is stable and safe, you will have a nest egg building, and it will make sticking to a yearly plan much easier as you won’t need to plan out around paychecks as your yearly income is usually going to stay the same.

Spreadsheets are cloud store able and editable, export features galore, and powerful stats with custom data manipulation or presentation. There is simply nothing better than making your own spreadsheet. You could always start with a premade spreadsheet that does not have too much fancy bs. Take time doing it, I promise you will be happier than stumbling around, not knowing what is going on or what your future holds.

Used MoneyWallet awhile back, its pretty solid and simple to use but switched to Paisa since it has a Material You theme and much more modern UI. Stability-wise MoneyWallet is the way to go since it hasn’t received any updates for awhile now

I personally use Firefly-III. It is completely self-hosted (there is no cloud version that I know of), and is quite feature-complete. Their data importer allows you to import transactions directly from your bank (check if you bank is supported, but all European banks are), so you don’t need to create anything manually.

For example, I have the data importer running daily, and then I only have to set the correct category for each transaction, which doesn’t take that long.

If you have a nextcloud you can install cospend on it. On your android you can use the app MoneyBuster, it will sync with your nextcloud/cospend. MoneyBuster is available in the F-Droid store.

It is very usefull if you want to track your own spendings as well as all the spendings of a group when on holiday.

I’d like to know too, the only ones that I know and piqued my interest so far are Ivy Wallet and Paisa (for the latter looks like they don’t even want to move to the main repo, i.e. keeping the proprietary bits), but both still depend on Google in some form

I use IvyWallet which is opensource but has some tracking which you can opt out of. Design is pretty good and it has been serving me well for the past year
