‘The Great Race’ is up there with ‘Mad, Mad…World’ and ‘Casino Royale’ as overdone Hollywood comedies.
When Peter Falk is the worst actor in as movie, you know it’s gonna be fun.
The largest pie fight in Hollywood history
it is one of those genres that only could exist in that particular moment in time. Casino Royale was a shitshow though. Such a baffling movie.
“Particular moment in time” is one of my favorite tropes.
Saw a video with Quentin Tarantino. He was talking about another Natile Wood movie. "Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice,’ could have only been made at that exact moment in Hollywood history.
Can you think of any others?
[also, I really liked Casino Royale. I think it’s best seen in separate segments and not as one piece.]
George Lucas’ heavily postmodern variations of sci-fi and pulp adventure (like it is actually impressive how much he managed to synthesize into Star Wars and Indiana Jones) could only work in that relatively short window of time between first Star Wars 1977 and last Indiana Jones movie 1989. After that it kinda petered out in a lot of ways.
Nice
