I had the idea for making trample matter outside of combat too. I’m not sure how to balance the mana cost of this, since there isn’t really a similar existing effect to compare it to besides Ram Through. It could certainly do some good things if you really build for it, but I don’t think it can really get broken. Thoughts?
I honestly think you could make this cost 1 or 2 mana, and I don’t think it’s overpowered. It seems somewhat reliant on a fight spell to work but I think that serves green well here.
I think for three mana you could also make it draw you a card whenever you play any creature with trample.
I had it at 4 originally, but figured that was too much, even with the draw a card. I did consider that idea, draw a card every time, but that turns it into a card draw engine card with upside, and I wanted the focus to be on the trample thing.
I think you’re right it could be cheaper. There are some strong things you can do: if your opponent has small creatures you basically turn fight/bite spells into pretty strong direct damage spells. But I guess you need a bunch of cards to actually do that.
Thanks for the advice!
That’s a cool and clean design. I agree with Mike that this could cost less mana, being a conditional cantrip and needed heavy deckbuilding requirements to do anything more than that. 1 or 2 mana seem reasonable as is. Maybe it could be at 2 or 3 mana if it just drew the card with no conditions asked.
Thanks! I think 2 mana sounds pretty fair yeah, maybe I could drop it to uncommon too.
Worth noting this also gives them trample over battles and Planeswalkers, but only for noncombat damage
Yeah I considered making it just creatures, but figured it was already pretty narrow.
