Since embedding large videos can be problematic on the Fediverse, I was thinking that maybe it would be a good idea to liberate certain vids from the Evil Empire where there’s no good YT link.

Yup, I’m pretty sure they deliberately separate the A&V in order to help prevent direct-linking. Indeed, I had to go in to the dev-style browser tools just to extract those files.
That said, I’m not sure there’s currently a way to extract the combined A&V files directly as a hot-link. Now if it’s for your personal use, you can soitenly* save them to your device with tools like this:
