I have a dumb question about artifacts like this, they are always a bit borked (assimetrical designs, not really round, etc.) is this a process limitation e.g. they just couldn’t make them better, or they were in better shape and were damaged during their lifetime?

I imagine a mixture of those factors. Some are fantastically symmetrical, most are a little asymmetrical, many are seemingly crude.

I imagine some of it is a literal skill issue - many pieces were probably created by non-specialist artisans in a time before robust technical manuals and training standards.

Stupid question: do they use cm or inches on the rulers in the photos?

Just a community for everyone to share artifacts, reconstructions, or replicas for the historically-inclined to admire!

Generally, an artifact should be 100+ years old, but this is a flexible requirement if you find something rare and suitably linked to an era of history, not a strict rule. Anything over 100 is fair game regardless of rarity.
