Hiking packing list app: advice needed!
I am currently using Lighterpack, but I would like to switch to a more mobile friendly website or app. The website is not mobile friendly and it takes a lot of time to update my backpack list (plus it’s so difficult to navigate from mobile)
What do you hikers use? Any advice is more than welcome 🙇♀️ bonus if the app is open source.

I uhhhh… I just write things down on a sheet of paper, then lose it, then say “fuck it, we’ll do it live!”. And that’s how I ended up with an 8lb base weight for the pct.
Honestly, I think the best system is a laminated sheet of paper with all the hiking gear (that you already own, probably) you think you will need for any trip (lamination machines cost, like, $30). Then when it is time for a trip, you can use a dry erase marker to cross out things you wont bring, check off things that you’ve packed, and even make little notes.
As far as weight goes - you should bring what you need, and not bring what you don’t need. Then you can weigh your pack. After all, if you actually need it, then you are going to bring it regardless of weight.
Not to sound condescending or anything but…
Have you tried a paper checklist?
(And, anyway, once you’ve built a pack for one trip, a lot of the stuff can just stay in the pack waiting for the next trip. So you only really need to worry about consumables and things that don’t stay in the backpack during storage.)
@OwOarchist I often switch backpacks according to what I have to do: daily hikes, ferrate, trekking. Most of the stuff can’t stay on the same backpack, and what I like about Lighterpack is that I can weight everything and be sure I don’t bring too much with me. I could do it on paper but it would take much longer.
@gilraen79 @hiking Packstack.io has gotten a lot of improvements and mobile support now as well.
Uh, I always used Anytype (now Joplin) as a checklist for the gear to be put in the backpack 😅
What are the main features that you are looking for in Lighterpack? Mind that I don’t know the app, I’m genuinely interested and not sarcastic

@alex @hiking @outdoor lighterpack can memorise your gear and once you have it stored in the website you can create your backpack easily without starting from scratch every time. You can divide it into different categories and flag items as wore and as food, so it knows if something will be eaten or if it doesn’t have to count it as inside the backpack. I really like it, it’s very simple but effective.
Understood! Looking at Alternativesto all the alternatives are proprietary (so no Open Source) and many are Freemium, sadly :(
