This is what I love about the left. We can come up with a thousand criticisms for each other because we are aware that we will understand them, and we all have a problem with perfect being the enemy of good. Meanwhile right-wing followers are like: I shall align myself with literal Nazis on the off chance they will prevent women from having any power over me! And never get around to criticizing anyone but the straw man left, while their leaders are flashing Nazi salutes.

The arguments on the left remind me of the debates I have with myself. Logical, nuanced, taking time to figure out what works best for a situation.

Meanwhile, the arguments on the right remind me of the emotional outbursts I had as a kid. Confused, scared, unable to make sense of the confusing world around me and lashing out in response.

Are you telling me my dreams for a technologically enabled solarpunk commune are radical? Clutches pearls

They are radical, bruh! But also, expect the commune to collapse and/or become a shell of its former self eventually due to conflicting personalities and the inability to sell subsequent generations on the beauty of your vision.

Yeah, you know who doesn’t want to live on the commune? Kids who grew up on the commune

Also the habit of conflating how they think things should work in the perfect little bubble and then the reality where most people are money focused and going to do what’s best for them.

Completely ignoring how people feel and lacking in any empathy because it doesn’t align with their views.

    I wouldn’t say we’re a monolith.

There’s a running joke about how the entire platform is just 12 people and their alts who never agree on anything.

“Reasonable” tends to be whatever allows people to continue living their lifestyles without dealing with the slightest discomfort.

See how far that’ll get us.

While true, this is not easily solved and also I think the meme is more about people who then use this to justify total inaction. Doing anything at all is still better than doing nothing.

Doing what? Owning a reusable straw? Subsistence farming? It’s hard to know where the bar is set here.

OP’s meme should have a 3rd panel for “rant about society and suggest nothing” because that’s most of what I see from activists.

Straws aren’t a climate thing, they’re a trash and ocean pollution thing, same as with Q-tips and bottle cap tethers.
