Hey, I recently started playing Brütal Legend for the first time, having a lot of fun. However, I’m having a little trouble with the base combat.

I’m currently in a quest where I’m supposed to ambush some enemies with a bunch of headbangers, razor girls and a thunder hog(?). I’ve tried it a few times, but I keep failing and I’m not sure how to best approach the combat. I can do the face melt solo or fight with my axe or guitar. I can double team with one of the characters who is with me to deal even more damage, I can start a moshpit or send the headbangers to a specific target. I’ve tried different approaches, but my units keep dying.

I find it hard to judge what’s working better and what isn’t. Doesn’t help that I find it hard to distinguish between friend and foe and keep a good overview of the battlefield itself.

Any tips on how to best the combat?

I haven’t played this in forever but I remember just spamming the face melt thing. The battles are just RTS fights ripped from the game Sacrifice. Fly around, and when you see a concentration of enemies land and face melt them. Past that be efficient on the soul economy (might not be called that, that’s what it was in Sacrifice).

I don’t remember it being a very challenging game tbh, but I’d played a similar strategy game before.

I’m at the very start. I have had my first RTS battle, but this is just a quest fight with a limited amount of units. If they are dead I fail the mission. It’s just hard to keep them alive. And I feel like I don’t really know what I’m doing

I won’t lie despite the game having a wonderful world and amazing characters I didn’t LOVE actually playing it. The RTS part of the game I found very very frustrating. For me it was A LOT of trial and error. You have to treat the combat in the “missions” like an RTS. Build up your units and go after their “buildings”

For combat it self you can fight random things in the world which should help you nail down the rolling combat. I played on X360 back in the day so I don’t know how the experience is on PC.

This wasn’t by chance at all inspired by the Guess the game posts was it ?

What part of the story? I remember playing through for the first time, and getting to that final stage battle (Lake of Black Tears) there was a pretty big difficulty spike.

Otherwise I’m not sure how to help. Keep spamming units, and keep doing support solos. And definitely upgrade your guitar, there are certain skin(s) that “make solos more powerful” and they give a pretty good boost to the different effects. Also go find more solos if you don’t have them all; iirc some of them are kinda optional. Being able to summon The Beast (the car) is a good strategy too, cause you can mow down mobs and the weapons are pretty decent on it too, with the sideburners being pretty op from what I remember.

This is all from memory though, and it’s been over 10 years since I’ve played it.

Edit: but thanks for the tip with the car! I didn’t realize I can also use that
