I already loved languages, but finding opportunities to use them in real life isn’t always easy. I grew up in a very mono-lingual area, but studied Spanish and French in school (and a number of other languages independently.) Today, just a ten minute walk around my neighborhood led to using both, and I’m feeling really glad to be able to connect with neighbors that I wouldn’t have been able to speak to otherwise.

Have you had any unexpected connections arise from being a polyglot? Or do you prefer learning languages for other reasons? I got into it for my own understanding and curiosity, so getting a chance to use them in a practical situation is a bonus. But enough about me, I’d love to hear your stories!
