They look good! Did you have them before? Do they work well?

The gutters had a thin plastic mesh covering them when we moved in, which had become brittle and fragile with age. This is a much more robust system and should work just as well (and last longer) than the previous installation. I guess we’ll see in due course!

OT: Explain your roof tiles. They seem like pieces of wood placed next to each other with no overlap.

Those are slate tiles. The moss is hiding the raised edge of the tiles. They do overlap, of course.

      Like this:

And what do you think the moss likes about the edge? Rough substrate with plenty of surface area and maybe some water retention?

Somebody here said there was more than one layer; I see hear that the slate is being attached to boards. What do you attach the second layer to?

I’m gonna guess that they are slate or ceramic not wood.

And there is more than one layer.

Welcome to photos of houses in the EU that are not made of merely tape and lumber.

I’m proud to live in a brick condo, but I’m ashamed of our flat tar paper roof.

I’ve always thought overlapping was such a clever and effective thing that everyone would be doing it, but I guess you can really only overlap materials that are relatively easy to poke holes in, so overlappable material probably doesn’t last as long as multiple (2?) layers of slate.

      Who needs overlap when moss?

Oh, I hope no one’s fighting. Some roof moss is intentional, I hear, and looks neat.

It does look cool. My dream house is built of mostly moss and cobwebs.

They’re proper ceramic(?) / slate tiles and they do overlap but the moss may be hiding the joins.

With the kit I bought, very simple indeed. The sections clip together and are held spring-loaded in the gutters. Once I’d figured out the best way of fitting the sections together, it was a breeze.
