Hey all, glad to see there’s a little community here on Lemmy. I just went through all the purchasing fuss yesterday after trading in my 2014 Prius. Ended up with a '24 Limited RWD in Digital Teal. Only downside is it’s a branded vehicle, from what I can tell is due to a battery issue, in which Hyundai bought it back and fully replaced the battery. Ended up at ~$300 for 75 (put ~$10k down plus trade), but they noted that biweekly payments would essentially knock out down to 68 months. What a blast it is to drive though, and so much fancy tech… I’m gonna be finding any and every excuse to drive this beast.
Looking into a 220v L2 garage installation sooner than later.
I’ll throw some pics up tomorrow morning!
Ahh good for you. I’m about to be on my second ev, but I’m not going fully new. We got a 220v charger installed and it’s a game changer. The dinky plug in ones are a fire hazard.
Beyond that as your first ev, Im interested to watch how your thinking changes. Just small details like expecting a car to not make noises while driving, having extra power accelerating, the smell (no gas or oil mess means it’s just physically cleaner). Not going to gas stations. It becomes more like charging your phone, and after adjusting it becomes odd to think of having to charge outside of the home, like brushing your teeth in public.
Yeah the charging mindset will definitely trip me up a little. I expect to at least once drive into a gas station, get out and wonder where to put the fuel pump. I already got stumped on how to open the charge hatch lol. Couldn’t open it by tapping, but had to use the fob.
I am lucky that my daily commute is all of 20 minutes round trip, so I expect to joyride a little more, take myself places I wouldn’t usually go, etc etc. The '14 Prius I had kinda was just… there, and over time with what I lovingly call battle damage, the visuals were not keeping up to snuff. Add that to the stupid expensive repairs over the years ($1600 this past January for… brakes/calipers?) it was becoming a money sink. The worst of all though was the MPGs. I bought the Prius when I lived in Delco PA, and that’s a rather flat locale, but I was driving 90 miles a day at the time. Was averaging 45-50MPG per fill-up. Now that I’m bordering on the Lancaster area, it’s quite hilly, and I was getting 25MPG on some days, even worse with lower winter temps.
I’m also realizing I don’t need to spend an arm and a leg for the charger install. I should be able to just get a 220V plug routed and installed in our garage, and get a decent midrange L2 charger hooked up (I’ve seen Grizzl-E as a decent option).
This thing is gonna grow on me so much. It’s really comforting almost to have a vehicle I’m excited to drive again.
