So the English language word for it was originally soccer, the UK and it’s basal states changed it to football later.
Aged like wine.
Looks like a 13 year olds post, so makes sense. But I assume this twitter post was thoroughly workshopped beforehand.
Football, football, football.
Would’ve worked better if it had been Britain vs whoever, as soccer is a British term.
Not at all? They originally called it football. Then soccer and football for some time but strictly football again since the 80s.
So doesn’t work at all. While simple minded people from the US insist it’s ‘soccer’ despite 99% of the world calling it football.
While they call their weird eggball game football, a game which barely involves kicking a ball with your feet.
Eggball is the proper name for that sport. I’m sure the name will catch on.
I wouldn’t say 99%, but yeah. I know for sure Japan also calls it soccer, likely because of the US; I think Canadians and Australians have too? It’s mostly to distinguish it from national sports they call football, which is poorly named but doesn’t have a good alternative aside from saying “American Football” or “Australian Rules Football” (both of which are really more like rugby).
I tend to just call it based on who I’m talking to and the context, so I avoid confusing them. I never call it soccer with my German or Spanish speaking friends, though, who are much more into futbol than American Football.
Or I just use emoji. Lol ⚽
