So I had crazy amount of Karma and was very involved in Reddit where I built quite a community and made friends. I went into a marriage sub and must have offended someone and I got suspended from that sub. I think I commented ‘I think I messaged you on another sub where you wrote the same thing to help’ this sub is no DMs and I wasn’t talking about messaging the other woman from this sub but another one and as a lady too I just wanted to help her. It was an innocent misunderstanding. Months later I decided to make a throw away account to ask something I didn’t want to ask with my main account. Accidentally commented in the marriage sub with my throw away account completely forgetting that months ago my main account was already suspending in that sub. BAM I got ban evasion. Since then no matter what account I make hours later it’s also banned. It really sucks cause I honestly made a mistake. I tried to get the ban appealed but it was denied. So here I am now trying to learn the lemme thing!
Welcome to the fediverse!
I prefer lemmy / piefed because it’s not owned by a greedy capitalist who takes all your contributions for his own profits and then kicks you out anytime.
I built quite a community and made friends
There are really nice people here. Hope you enjoy it here too.
Thank you 😁
I got perm banned for supposedly breaking Reddit’s rule 3.
Basically it just says you can’t post sexualized photos of people without their permission.
The photos I shared “without permission”, however were of popular, commercially available adult actresses specifically on a subreddit cetered around just that. These people are so popular they appear in memes on SFW subreddits. They have massive subreddits centered around them. Of all the NSFW content allowed on reddit, it is among the most allowed.
The only exception was that I think one of the photos I posted was OF content or something that was intended to be behind a paywall. That’s the only guess I have. But even this person shows up all over the place on reddit from people who are definitelt not her.
I won’t deny that if that’s the case I was being careless. But I tried to appeal, and was denied. I can’t get over the fact that supposedly a human looked at that and said that what I did was tantamount to taking a creep shot of someone in public and then posting it to reddit.
I’m fine with never using reddit again, but that had me scared I had found myself in some sort of serious trouble…
I know most people say Reddit is crap and not to care but I’m seriously sad and I can’t seem to find a replacement. I hope this is it.
It’s definitely slower than Reddit.
Just a couple things to keep in mind from what I’ve seen:
If you notice a community hasn’t had a post in a couple months, don’t assume it’s dead. I’ve posted in places that haven’t had activity in months and gotten several replies relatively quickly.
A lot of Lemmy is news and memes. So you might have to get used to embracing that if you aren’t already. Going to “all” and sorting by new is what I mostly do here.
I was kinda sad too, but the further away I get from the time I was banned the more manageable it is. Just give it time 👌
Great tips thanks so much 🥰
This IS it… and it may take you a while to sort out the comms (subs) you want to join.
Traffic-wise, it’s like Reddit used to be, back when I joined it in 2009.
(I got banned two weeks shy of 15 years last October and found this site and have been here since! Ilove it!)
I am on old.lemmy.zip since it’s more technology heavy (and the “old” reddit-style which I prefer) but can link to communities on any of the federated servers… [email protected] is a good women’s group… [email protected]… for general topics…
Music, art, TV shows… It’s all here!
Whereas reddit was one website with a gazillion subs, lemmy is one of many “fediverse” servers (instances) all tied together by a web communication protocol. You may find a bunch of communities you like that are all on different servers, but you subscribe to them andt hey will show up on your feed on whatever server you signed up on. It’s really neat.
Welcome to the party! Stick around and you’ll find losts of comms to read and post on.
Yeah I’m still trying to understand these ‘servers’ but I’ll get there lol thanks so much for the support
If you go to the lemmy information site, it shows you all the sites in the fedivesre. https://lemmy.fediverse.observer/list - most people have signed up on lemmy.world, but you can join any one then subscribe to a community (subreddit) on other sites (instances) from the one you signed up on. The posts all cross link to the various instances.
The practical upshot is, if you get banned from one instance, (you’d have to really be doing asshole things, BTW - the site owners and most mods are really laid back - no corporate, censorious, ownership for the most part) you can go sign back up on another one.
My advice is to use a Piefed instance. It’s like Lemmy except it isnt maintained by people who want you to kill your own family.
Never heard of it I’ll have to google
Hmm. Lemmy is a great software and free for everybody: no matter what you believe.
Whether you agree with the developer’s political beliefs or not doesn’t matter.
Your instance is still federated with hexbear afaik, your opinion means nothing to me.
Tolerance ends with the intolerant.
If you believe that why don’t you make your own (or switch to a) piefed instance that doesn’t federate with any lemmy instance?
You are contributing to lemmy indirectly by interacting with users on lemmy.
I’m on a Piefed instance, if I didn’t enjoy calling out you Tankie fucks then I would just block you and your instances manually.
I’m not a tankie. I was just pointing out that the code is open source and is devoid of any political bias. So it doesn’t make sense to attach the developer’s political beliefs with it.
But yea fair enough and good luck.
They had a word for Nazi Collaborators. They called them Nazis.
