    Bring back the CES.

    Privatisation of a service that is a hard requirement for the dole means that there is no need for those providers to provide quality outcomes for the people forced to use their services.

    Edit: oh, there are “requirements” in place for these companies to get their money. This just means that it’s an endless game of effort minimalisation for employment companies so they can extract maximum profit (See also: the current Aged Care debacle). Nationalise the jobs system, let’s keep that money in-house for a better outcome.

      This privatisation lunacy has to end, and then be wound back. Services don’t need to - and shouldn’t be - profitable. Profit motivation inherently leads to poorer outcomes. They’re things that benefit all of us, so we all chip in to pay for them. That’s the whole point of government. It seems we need constant reminders of that.

          Labor in the Hawke-Keating era started this off, unfortunately, although Howard certainly finished the job.

          This whole neoliberal mindset is deeply embedded in most politicians of a certain age who all fully bought into the idea since it became dominant in the 1980s and have been slow to abandon it (even amongst those that are acting in good faith).

    Rishworth and Labor refuse to go through with removing the privatised system because they are bought and paid for by the private service lobby. The selling of these pitiful changes to the streams as generational is embarrassing.

    The whole privatised system and mutual obligation need to be scrapped. Both have helped dismantle trades training and travelling seasonal work in Australia. It’s contributed to the lack of skilled people to build housing and infrastructure as well.

    Labor especially should be ashamed because these things are its reason for existence…trades, training and labour. We expect this dog shit from the Coalition, Labor should be better.
