Today’s game is Dead Space. I did start AC Brotherhood today (I’m loving it) but I wanted to take a breather as 2 Assassins Creed games back to back is a lot. So instead I committed to this. I’ve had it in my library for a while now and never got around to playing it. Well now is the time.

First I have to compliment the diegetic design. It’s hard to pull off in a way that’s good I feel like, but Dead Space really pulls it off.

As for the story. It gives me major Aliens vibes. I only watched it for the first time last year. So I’m not super well versed in Aliens lore but I’m liking what I’m seeing of Dead Space.

I already know the big twist, so I won’t talk much on that. So instead I’ll talk about the Necromorphs: Cutting off their limbs is so satisfying. I know it sounds deranged but there’s something satisfying about lining up a shot and slicing off a limb. Really nice feeling. I also have taken to proximity mine trapping vents and double tapping any creatures. I feel more like I’m the antagonist here to be honest. It’s fun though.

Anyways. I’ve made it close to the end of Chapter 3. The centrifuge was a bit of a struggle as I kept going the opposite way of where I had to go. But once I figured that out I made it out there a lot quicker and gave things a rest once I ran into the first exploder.

It’s more heavily inspired by Event Horizon, if you like sci-fi horror go watch it.

Damn, another Sci-fi movie too watch. Honestly Sci-fi horror doesn’t do a lot for me (The scariest thing to me in Alien was that the cat could die, for example), but i still love the experience. I’ll have to queue up a watch party with my friend group

I don’t care much for horror, but I like sci-fi, so I end up watching sci-fi horror films.

I forget which Jedi game it was (Academy maybe?) but I used to setup laser mines, then use Force powers to pick up enemy units and drag them past the mines. It was very effective.

Dead Space is such a great game. It’s a shame it’s owned by EA. There is always Peng.

I am not a horror fan but Dead Space is fun. Played the original on PS3 and have been thinking of playing the remake (since I got it for “free” from PS+).

The remake is great. For example in the mentioned centrifuge level you get to actually fly around (like in Dead Space 2) instead of just pushing off of a surface and flying to another surface (or missing it and dying), makes the game slightly easier. Also some levels were changed in a good way and you can run from the front of the ship all the way to the back now. I think that wasn’t a thing in the original, but makes it more enjoyable to go around the ship and do some more exploration.
