When you have countries like Russia fucking with world energy supply, the natural step is to make sure you can source energy without them. Germany became dependent on Russia and the rug pull has hurt German domestic industry heavily. A United States dependent on Russia is not a United States standing on solid ground.

I wonder what the relative expansion of fossil fuels is compared to the expansion of green energy.

I’d love to know that too since we supposedly doubled renewable capacity this year alone

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Canada and Russia have the next biggest expansion plans, calculated based on how much carbon dioxide is likely to be produced from new developments, followed by Iran, China and Brazil.

Romain Ioualalen, the global policy lead at Oil Change International and co-author of the report, said countries must call a halt to fossil fuel expansion.

He has told world leaders they will be allowed to participate in the summit, on the sidelines of the annual UN general assembly, only if they can show that they have clear implementation plans to cut their greenhouse gas emissions.

The Guardian revealed at the weekend that Rishi Sunak, the UK prime minister, had been warned of the UN’s strict policy on whether leaders could participate before he took the highly unusual decision not to attend the UN general assembly.

She added: “Rishi Sunak needs to stop bowing to the demands of the fossil fuel companies, who continue to rake in obscene profits while millions of us cannot afford to heat our homes.”

A spokesperson for the UK’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero said: “This report ignores the great strides we have taken in reducing our dependence on fossil fuels.
