      Bogart in 1940s was basically a mythical entity - once he did The Maltese Falcon - he straight decided every single movie he does onwards must COUNT and he pulled it off. He’s such a great nuance actor - all the little things that make a compound effect and then voila and his characters feel distinct.

        For fun, watch ‘Satan Met A Lady.’ It’s a comic version of ‘The Maltese Falcon’ with Bette Davis as the femme fatale. It’s on HBO Max. It’s interesting to see what the studio thought was good and bad about the novel.
