Anyways: what a funny time to see this as I had just taken a break to get a soda while watching Assault on Precinct 13 when I read this.
Dude isn’t even that old, he just looks ancient.
He is 78, which is that old.

I wouldn’t get my hopes up. Carpenter’s a cool guy, word probably got out he liked Peele’s work and Peele obviously decided to give the old man a visit.
BTW : Carpenter is still rockin’ on bandcamp with his son.
I would love a “The thing” movie by Peele. I feel he’d do justice to it.
I love the way it’s always assumed that a remake of The Thing would do some kind of service/disservice to John Carpenter.
He made a fucking remake. If someone else does a remake, it’s fucking whatever. Carpenter did a fantastic fucking remake, but it’s still a remake.
Like if someone remade The Fly. Cronenberg did a fantastic job. Is it his fucking film? No. It was a remake.
The original The Thing is not a remake. I just recently watched the 1951 movie and it is very different from Carpenter’s version. Both films are loosely based on “Who Goes There?” by John Campbell but they are independent interpretations of the source material.

Jordan Peel movies are soo overrated.
Seriously. I don’t understand why they get so much love. Black Klansman had its moments (great for turning into YT Shorts clips), but Nope was so bad that I couldn’t finish the first act. Didn’t make it much further past that unnecessary scene with the horse getting stabbed by a fork.
Keegan is the more hilarious one. Jordan is alright, though.
Definitely overrated, but he’s doing some interesting stuff.
I’ll agree i like the direction he’s trying for but so far he’s been like m night for me.
I can see this comparison a bit.
I enjoyed Get Out a lot and my second favorite would be Nope. I wanted to love Us but it felt very loosely written.
Get Out is probably his best due to the subject matter, Nope is a good commentary on animal abuse for spectacle but I definitely see the repeating pattern similar to M Night’s “twist” motif. The big difference is Peele’s films hit more than M Night’s do, where a majority of his failed to stick the landing. Time will tell if he ends up similarly.
Cregger is another comedy writer turned horror director that may end up better, the new RE seems promising and I feel Weapons and Barbarian are amazing films.
