    After a conversion about the origin of something in Australia my wife now think NSW, the state abriviation for New South Wales, is called NSW because of the 3 largest cities Newcastle, Sydney, and Wollongong

      I knew about what it really stands for before your post, but without doing research I can’t tell how much of the rest is false: Is Wollongong a real city? Are the first two even in NSW? Etc.

        Yes, all 3 cities are real and in New South Wales. They are the most populated ones, well were at the time the joke started doing the rounds.
