    Eliminate public places, discourage people from gathering. Not only does that keep us from comparing notes on how badly we’re getting exploited by billionaires; it also has the effect of keeping us in our neighborhoods when we’re not working or commuting. Make life outside of work as boring as possible.

      you could also say: everything is a commodity from which maximum profit is extracted without killing the consumers and producers all too quickly

      well sometimes very quickly in the case of war lol

        I was about to say, let’s assume capitalism rather than long-reaching malice. The aristocracy has proven that largely, they’re not great at long-term thinking - so the real answer is more rationally “private equity and the demands of capitalism requiring that even everyday recreation be heavily monetized” rather than “nefarious puppetmasters are conspiring to lock humanity into a work-only lifestyle”. The former can beget the latter, but I believe that’s more a happy knock-on effect than a very pointed and intentional outcome.
