I’m really surprised this apparently happened from a blow to his helmet. Are football helmets not as safe as motorcycles helmets or something? I assumed if we had the technology to keep people alive when they fall off a motorcycle at 50 mph then we had the technology to keep kids from dying after knocking their heads together.
Nope, kids have been getting concussions and dying for years and years. Imo, the risk is absolutely not worth it. I hate American culture. I hate that abuse has been normalized.

Motorcycle helmets are designed for one impact. Sports helmets are less effective because they have to survive multiple impacts, and at that they are useless for lower impact and rotational forces.
So the solution was soft helmets:
