Does it really work on anything but Firefox these days?
They’re supposed to be bringing native ad blocking to iOS, but I think it’s only for influencers at this point — it’s not in the public release. So the bloggers and YouTubers have it, which means the rest of us will get it… maybe someday. I guess depending on how much the hype brings in new users? I dunno.
On iOS, we have Wipr2, which is pretty good, but not free. Still, it works on YouTube videos, and it’s reduced my reliance on apps. Any app with a ton of ads I can just browse to… app uninstalled, and I just browse to it in Safari. Some websites actually try to punish you for this (e.g. IMDb, and of course YouTube), but it’s better than dealing with the ads.
Of course, when my Android phone is powered on, it’s got the better browser. Full fat Firefox with extensions. Well, maybe not “full” fat, but it does have the extensions.
uBO Lite is available on IOS. I can’t really tell how effective it is at this point though, because I use a combination of it + DNS filtering + Firefox Focus / DDG Browser + AdGuard.
It’s pretty good. I use lite + ghostery and nothing passes through.
As you should. So, I was in the TestFlight (beta) for uBlock Origin Lite. Like Adguard Pro (bought at 99¢, later went up to $10, now I think it’s a subscription), Wipr2, and others, it only works for Safari. uBO Lite is a good place to start, and unlike the others I mentioned, it’s free.
When I used it, it did not block YouTube ads.
You mentioned DDG. The DuckDuckGo browser DOES block YouTube ads. So that is another free solution.
