I wasn’t able to find an existing community for Cosmere fans on Lemmy yet, so figured I’d get one spun up.

For now I dropped some basic spoiler guidelines in the sidebar, namely to tag posts with the book being discussed, and tag any comments discussing spoilers outside the book stated in the title.

If the community winds up growing we can spin it out to more dedicated communities such as Mistborn, Stormlight, etc. But for now everything can just be lumped together here!

OH YAY!! I am super pumped there is a Cosmere presence over here. Not sure what is going to happen with Reddit but I have a** need **to discuss SA- I’m 35% through Rhythm of War and I can only imagine I’ll need a support group when I finish it.

On a reread of Mistborn era 2 but recently blazed my way through Tress of the Emerald Sea. Can’t wait to talk about cosmere theories and goodies with all you lovely people!

I love you for getting this up and running. I just started reading SP3 and was itching to go to reddit to discuss, but avoided the urge so I searched lemmy to find this community and am super happy to see this here. Thank you so much for taking the initiative to set this up!

    Yay, I found this place!

I think there’s an issue with spoiler tags on Jerboa (as in, they don’t work). Gonna test it to make sure

    test

    Test spoiler text

Is that the correct formatting? If so, it indeed doesn’t work on Jerboa :(

I can see " test spoiler text" by default. I’m on connect for lemmy

Yeah, seems you’re right. Looks like the spoiler tag works in the web browser, but not Jerboa. Definitely a much needed feature.

That’s a pity, I don’t really want to start talking about spoilers when an unsuspecting Jerboa user might get things spoiled for them… I hope it gets added/fixed soon in the app!

The great thing is Jerboa is open source. I am hoping I have time this weekend to poke around and see if I can find a fix and submit it to the developer. I loved the way spoilers are treated on the various subreddits and definitely want to keep that here!

I guess I know what I will do on the weekend now if the jerboa devs haven’t by solved by then. Looks like markup in general doesn’t work at all.

Hey! So this community is intended to discuss novels written by Brandon Sanderson, a massively popular fantasy author. He has several series, such as Mistborn and the Stormlight Archive which are set in a shared universe called the Cosmere. The community might still be a bit niche for Lemmy, but with the surge in new users (Myself included) I figured it would be worth creating communities like this.

If you’ve never read any of his work though, I’d highly recommend trying it out! He tends to write very character driven fantasy novels, characterized by very detailed magic systems. They’re relatively easy reads compared to some more dense authors such as George R.R. Martin or Patrick Rothfuss, but still have phenomenal plots and payoff.

A good place to start if you’re looking for something easy to hop into is a novella called The Emperors Soul. It can be read completely standalone, is short enough to finish in an afternoon, and won a Hugo award for Best Novella the year it was released. Another good place would be the first Mistborn novel, The Final Empire, which is part of a trilogy.
