So ableism? Or is this colonialism? Speak english or be excluded?

I get the activism, really, but taking it out on people who actually benefit from these technologies, in one of the few cases it’s actually by design good at (language), is not the way.

For an analogy, your phone/computer/whatever you’re using to read this, probably has some parts from dubious places, be it cobalt mines with terrible working environments or whatever. I don’t see anyone making a fuss about that, and rejecting commits unless they’re made from an ethically sourced machine

These LLMs were created by terrible companies, ignoring all human decency, I agree. But throwing them out now that they were trained, especially higher quality local models that don’t have the sustained environment impact the datacenters have, is just throwing out the baby with the bathwater.

You can choose to boycott the companies training them, you can choose to exclude the contributions to code, but please don’t attack the few useful tools that came out of this: machine translation, computer vision and text to speech all made leaps forward and made the internet so much more accessible due to these tools.

Can you show me how these tools came out of pushing AI down our throats? Pretty sure they were well available and in development before the whole “AI” buzzword push.

Seems to me like what they mean is twisting someone’s words through re-generating / changing intent (accidentally or not), not necessarily translating a language.

Uh, pretty sure there’s plenty of complaints about working conditions in mines etc.

Also, this is just a fork, you are free to use whatever you want. Nobody is forcing you to use this.

I will maybe use it though because I prefer software without AI

Yeah, maybe they themselves just didn’t think of “misrepresenting”.
        Perhaps give an MR?

doubt it’ll be anything more than a soft fork, but hey, some people really don’t want AI in their editor.

Neovim does not mandate disclosure of AI usage, so it’ll have to be hard fork if the developers intend to have no AI in viq. Otherwise it’ll just be Neovim with a bit less AI in it
