If they actually fought the US they would be utterly annihilated like their Wagner forces were in Syria when they met American combined arms. I think an American ally was mildly injured in that fight (a sprain or something) while Wagner suffered hundreds of causalities.

I bloody well hope that the entire collective West is waging war on Rusdia. We have seen what they are capable of all over the world, but our eyes are especially open now because of Ukraine.
