For those of you wondering what all the fuss is about, here’s a quick introduction to the app.

Yes, it’s yet another app for Lemmy, but based heavily on the mature but now abandoned Lemmur project, with a few updates to make it run with the current API and some minor changes to the UI.

Written in Flutter, so it is very multi-platform. We currently have builds available for testing for Android and iOS (also running on iPad and Macs [Apple Silicon only for the moment]). Brave souls can try building it for Linux or Windows and report back on their experiences!

Preview it on iOS at TestFlight or on Android at GitHub.

The source is released under GPL 2.0 and is available at GitHub for inspection, download, build, issue logging and contributions, so go and get it!

Features:

  • Fully featured for end users: posting and commenting fully complete.
  • Sorting and UI customisation options.
  • Light Mode, Dark Mode, System Mode.
  • Multiple accounts on multiple servers.
  • Bookmark your favourite posts and comments.
  • Localisation (work in progress).
  • Full search support (posts, comments, users, communities).

    Been enjoying it so far.

You never realize how nice it is to be able to swipe to dismiss an image until you can’t do it anymore.

    Keep up the good work!

Just installed it for Android and it already feels so much better than the mobile website or Jerboa. Thanks for the work, I’ll be following the development of the app!

Liftoff is by far the best Lemmy app I’ve tried on Android. The UI is beautiful, and doesn’t feel generic like others. Seems quite stable. Now available on Play Store. I’m really enjoying it!

Isn’t this exactly like Lemmynade? Which one of them copied the code? The interface is identical down to every single animation.

They both are forks of Lemmur, an old open source Lemmy client

Dev of Lemmynade here! Michael (dev of Limbo) and I have joined forces! We had both resurrected an old abandoned app called lemmur.

So Lemmynade and Limbo are no longer and you are both working on Liftoff now?

This is working great on Android. I don’t even want to touch the website anymore. No refresh issue either!

The Android app is really nice. It’s cool to be able to view posts from Beehaw and Lemmy.world in the same feed.

They appear to be uploaded to the instance your acccount is on. The URL for the image shows up after you choose the image when making a post.

Yes. The image is stored on the instance with your account but can be viewed by anyone.

Thank you. I just discovered Liftoff! and it immediately replaced Jerboa on my Android tablet. Looking forward to seeing how this app matures, it’s already great!

Same. Jerboa kept crashing for me. I liked it’s look, but it made me look for others. This, I believe, is the only one that let’s me filter subs like I could on RIF, which is one of the most important features to me

    Thank you very much!

It looks like one of the most mature Lemmy apps on iOS.

As far as I see, it’s the only one currently, that allows to copy the text of the post and the text of the comments. That helps very much with the possibility to translate the text of the post or the comments, by the way.

Thanks, you’ve prompted me to add an enhancement request to look at adding translation into the app.

Thank you so much! This is quite a unique feature that was implemented in Apollo, and it really helped me in my interatctions with international communities. I haven’t seen a single Lemmy client that supports this yet.

I have a question that might be right to ask here, idk.

    My account is on lemmy.world.

Ive added lemmy.ml and a few other instances.

I have subscribed to a few communities on lemmy.world, but when i try to do the same for communities on other instances I’ve added, it says i need to be logged in to that instance. I thought part of the way this worked was only needing one account to interact with all federated instances? Can somebody help me wrap my head around this? Strictly mobile user

I’ve noticed that the super script, spoiler and postscript markup isn’t actually working on the app. The buttons in the formatting bar work, but they don’t do the thing in the actual post.

    Superscript

    spoiler

    Postscript

I really enjoy this app. Is there a way to report bugs or to see known issues of the android app?

Just make sure that you’ve selected a …@lemmy.world feed in the top dropdown so your lemmy.world account settings are used when you reply.

The subscribed view says there are no posts, which definitely isn’t true. Is this just not implemented yet? Or is it because lemmy.world isn’t on 0.18 yet?
