So the show “Freaks and Geeks” has episodes in different orders depending on if you use IMDB or TheMovieDB. It seems IMDB is correct, so I removed TheMovieDB entry, however I’m not sure how to get the metadata to update with only IMDB.

The options when I refresh metadata are

  • Scan for new and updated files
  • Search for missing metadata
  • Replace all metadata

If I do the first, nothing happens and if I do the other two, it adds TheMovieDB back to the metadata

There may be a better solution out there, but I prefer to use a media manager, such as TinyMediaManager, to grab the info for my media. You can choose your preferred provider, in your case IMDB, and then have it write .nfo files for your media, which Jellyfin will grab its info from.

This is not entirely uncommon due to versioning. The network TV version might have aired in a different order from the later released DVD boxset, or the US version aired in a different order than the EU version, etc. Instead of refreshing metadata, try using the Identify option. Under each of the results it will show the source, so pick the one that matches the episode order you want.

TMDB has multiple sort orders available. In jellyfin, edit the series metadata and change the “Display order” to DVD and it should match the IMDB order.
