I have a question for you all. What is your favorite cover or covers? No, I’m not talking about where we have another band singing the exact same song. What songs have you heard that were taken by an artist and completely made their’s?
An example would be hurt by Nine Inch Nails Covered by Johnny Cash
The Futureheads’ cover of Hounds of Love by Kate Bush: https://youtu.be/awjE92YZeEQ?si=5NVmsEpP6KuDxV1h
But an all-timer is Jimi Hendrix’s cover of All Along the Watchtower by Bob Dylan
@scaredofplanes
I feel that much of Dylan’s work is better with covers, but that one absolutely is a standout.
Shiny Toy Guns - Space Oddity

@Chuymatt “Mad World” by Tears for Fears, covered by Gary Jules & Michael Andrews — the version in Donny Darko
@Chuymatt other than Hurt, I enjoy the old Alex Harvey cover of Delilah https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0fT9BHpImI
keyboard noodling takes it somewhere else
Lemonheads Mrs Robinson
@Chuymatt Made it their own, eh?
Stretching the definition of cover: Butthole Surfers “Sweat Loaf” - Black Sabbath “Sweet Leaf”
Runners up for me would be the Ministry-related covers - all putting a unique spin on the songs.
- Revolting Cocks - Olivia Newton John “(Let’s Get) Physical”
- Revolting Cocks - Rod Stewart “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy”
- 1000 Homo DJs - Black Sabbath “Supernaut”
- Ministry - Bob Dylan “Lay Lady Lay”@Chuymatt Marc Ribot has a bunch of covers that really vary quite a bit from the original. My favorite cover of his is Hendrix’s The Wind Cries Mary

Im currently stuck on Kasey Chambers smashing Eminem’s Lose Yourself at Newcastle. It kicks ass. Love that Johnny Cash one too.
