Remember when every phone on the house had it’s own proprietary cable ? Truly horrible times.

Remember when you had to rent your phone from the phone company?

Imagine if service providers still did that now, and you’d have to rent a special box from the internet company to access the internet…or one from the TV company to watch shows and movies. What a world.

You still have this in some parts of EU.

The joke is that this is the state of American TV and Internet.

Sure some Cable ISPs let you bring your own modem, and Verizon Fios used to let you provision the Ethernet handoff of the ONT to go direct into your own router (if you chat up the install tech and are able to test connectivity with them there)…but the majority of users rent their modems and cable boxes.

Thanks. For a moment I thought Pennsylvania wiring was a real thing.

Do you… think… that Pennsylvanians don’t wire their homes?

Title text: You can leave at any time through the door over there. It’s a Louisville door, so you’ll need to find a compatible knob. No, don’t be silly, that one is a Lexington knob! Of course it won’t fit.

This one is particularly upsetting to me.

Edit: Actually a bit surprised texas hasn’t tried to impliment their own “Non-Woke” outlet design yet. It would undoubtedly be something that uses more material and costs more, but is considerably less safe both to the user of the outlet and the structure the outlet is in.

When you think about it, is it just the fediverse IRL?

Wait, the US didn’t even manage to standardize that?

      It’s a joke.

AC outlets across the US are indeed standardized.
