Okay #retrogaming - I got Kodi set up on my #nvidia #shieldtv with the internet archive game launcher… and I just re-re-remembered that my beloved #steamcontroller won’t work with it… I have no idea why I keep forgetting this.
I’m looking for 4 cheap bt controllers but the market is flooded… any #suggestions ?
Is kodi something equivalent to retroach or something like that? Any good resources you have used that explain how to set It up?
more or less this - https://old.reddit.com/r/Piracy/comments/g4gb8t/kodi_186_iagl_retroarch_emulation_heaven/
but I installed the kodi libretro things instead of retroarch… which would work too, but I honestly wanted to see if i could keep it all in one app. And it works very well… oddly, thought, I’m struggling to get it to run on my laptop… but it was a breeze on my shield tv
I love the Saturn controllers by 8-bit do M30 6 buttons on the face plus 2 shoulder buttons. It fits all my retro game needs. Any of the 8 bitdo controllers will work and are high quality.
Man I tried and then I tried again and then I tried some more, a whole bunch, but I could not force myself to like that controller. Just holding it was bad, reminds me of The Duke which was impossible to use when I was a kid trying to hold it. I got a DS5 and it’s been the best controller I’ve ever used by a huge margin and I’ve used a ton.
Edit: Just saw your price range, I’m not sure for that low you’ll end up with anything that you don’t just get pissed every time you go to use it. There are some decent cheap controllers, but I think you’ll be hard pressed to find anything decent below at least $30.
…I loved the duke
Ha ha, to each their own, for me it was one of the worst controllers I’ve ever used, and using the SC reminded me a lot of it and I also never could get comfortable with the trackpads regardless of how much I tried to force myself to use it in different genres of games. I’m glad you enjoyed them though! Maybe look for a larger controller if there more comfortable to you while you’re on your hunt.
Maybe you can find some old stadia controllers for cheap and convert them to Bluetooth controllers.
Edit: looks like most of the used stadia controllers I find are close to $20-30.
@qkall @retrogaming how cheap is cheap? I love my 8bitdo sn30 pro for emulation on my shield but it isn’t super duper cheap. I’ve also used dirt cheap switch controllers from 5below. Depends on your price point really
@philthycasualmedia @retrogaming
Super fair request… I’m hoping to spend like 10ish USD each? Like more of a - ‘oh the homies are over and we have like an hour to kill, let’s boot up super mario cart up’ type of thing. I doubt I’ll use them super often…
edit- maybe my ask is unreasonable… I haven’t looked at bt controllers in a bit… sheesh.
@qkall @retrogaming I’m sure there are some out there for 10 but I’d imagine they would be pretty rough if you can find them. If you can go up to at least 20 you should be able to find half-ways decent ones right on Amazon if not your local stores
