I think it’s a bit hit and miss. While most part it’s just “meh”, there are some parts that are actually better.

  • A good example would be Wretched Weaponry on the Junk Heap front; amazingly fitting with Gideon’s descend to madness (I’d keep the default soundtrack on the rest of Junk Heap tho…).
  • I also love the use of Dependent Weaklings as Shadowlord’s soundtrack.

With that said, I have more examples of what irks me.

  • Most notably, The Weight of The World should stay in Nier Automata; Ashes of Dreams carries more nuance for Nier Replicant.
  • I hate that they changed the waltz music to Amusement Park because it sounds nothing like waltz!
  • Town soundtracks:
    • Pascal for Facade, nope!
    • Fortress of Lies for Forest of Myth, nope!
    • Copied City for Airie, nope!
    • Voice of No Return for Seafront: hell no!
  • Field soundtracks:
    • Alien Manifestation for Barren Temple, nope!
    • City Ruin for plains: okay
    • Memories of Sand for Desert: completely expected
    • Amusement Park for Emil’s Manor: so-so, decreases creepiness

Maybe I love Nier Replicant soundtrack too much. Nier Automata soundtrack is definitely great, but I do feel like Nier Replicant soundtrack has more depth in general.

Edit:

Almost forgot, can’t have it without Kaine’s themes, Deep Crimson Foe, and Song of the Ancient

Blissful Death for the Shades’ flashbacks and Forest Kingdom for Forbidden Temple is actually better than the default. Also, The Tower for the Shadowlord’s Castle is strangely fitting.

Edit #2:

I just went thru the game once more. The spundtrack for Sacrifice bossfight was great. Also, I really love the sequence of soundtrack for the Louise bossfight, except for the Vague Hope part.
