Saw some discussion threads getting activity, so was thinking i should bring back the weekly pinned thread.
Post in here:
- Casual chat & questions
So to follow format, if I just want to post a random joint I tag it [HYPE] right? And if there is something interesting like news or an interview or some shit, I tag it [Discussion] I’m guessing?
Might as well try and help get the ball rolling with posting here
I would use Discussion just for purely discussion threads, e.g. “[DISCUSSION] Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp a Butterfly 10 year anniversary” Or “[DISCUSSION] What year had the best XXL freshman class?”
For news articles and music/music videos that aren’t fresh, I think they can be left tagless.
Anyone else have a song pop up in your playlist that takes you back to a certain time of your life?
For some reason - any song from the Mac and Devon Go to highschool soundtrack (Snoop Dogg x Wiz Khalifa) makes me super nostalgic. My partner is super into tiktok and one of the songs is a tiktok trend at the moment. And we ended up watching the movie over the weekend, was a lot of fun. But yeah, those songs straight up transport me through time.
Who in your opinion, is the most underrated artist at the moment, and why?
Napoleon a legend because of his crazy work ethic dropping more than 5 projects per year and none are bad
is JID underrated?
he isn’t selling as much as more mainstream artists. I realize sales numbers aren’t everything but I see artists like NBA Youngboy or whoever doing big numbers and their music doesn’t appeal to me, so maybe I’m just out of touch?
like Nas isn’t selling as much either these days and he’s my GOAT so it kind of hurts to see these amazing artists who are flying under the radar (sales wise) even though they are putting out great albums
makes me wonder about other artists who I don’t even know about because they just can’t get their name out there due to low sales
I don’t think he is. He scored a lot of good hits on tv shows (arcane) and moves n shit
That alone will always pay WAY more than music releases.
Sales is always going to appeal to pop music crowd, real success is getting mad deals
good points!
I mean its not like I want JID to become some super pop artist, but just kinda sucks when attention doesn’t always equal talent/ability in the music industry. There are non hip-hop artists that I think are great, but no one has ever heard of them either.
staying somewhat under the ‘raydar’ is probably a good thing overall for an artist to maintain their own vision, etc.
I feel like he is a little underrated in terms of sales and recognition. He’s great but i think he needs to continue branching out and get his voice in more earballs.
