I don’t know why. Mostly I don’t notice much lag, but any time I go down there it stutters horribly.
I am on Linux playing the steam client, which is generally a bit more laggy than the other Linux client, but the sound works better so I use it still.
The steam client on Linux is AFAIK not the real Linux client, it’s Proton playing RuneScape… Probably best to discuss this here https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/5535
That’s true, the native client is Java based and works okay except for the sound issue, which has a fix but doesn’t always work very well. Plus you still need proton for the Jagex launcher.
The native client is not Java based… Unless you’re talking about OSRS in which case, wrong community
I’m surprised the Steam client through Proton works at all. Last time I tried it, it was a horrible mess. Then again, I guess I shouldn’t be, seeing how well games generally run on Proton these days.
In the past I’ve had most luck with the AUR download and was able to fix the sound crackling completely by adding a single line into one of the launcher’s files… buuut that didn’t seem to work anymore for some reason so perhaps I should give the Proton version another try once I get back on my Linux machine. May I ask which Proton version you’re using?
I am just using whatever the default is in steam, and it works fine. The regular client won’t work anymore with Jagex launcher without setting up the launcher through Lutris. I will need to do that and try the sound fix again, I could never quite get it to work.
