And its food selection is more comparable to a Trader Joe’s than a vending machine, with a bakery, an entire wall of bagged jerky of varying flavors and a brisket station manned by employees in straw hats who holler every time a new hot slab of beef is ready for chopping.

This just seems like a grocery store with some gas pumps. Is there really not much going on in Texas that people go to a grocery store as an adventure?

It is nothing like Trader Joe’s. It’s more similar to the food and other crap you’d find at Stuckeys in the 1970s.

      People stop at Buckees because:

      • gas
      • large clean bathrooms
      • owned by a conservative like chick fil a

They’ve recently started adding Tesla chargers as well.

Personally I avoid them because the ones near me are annoyingly crowded.

I don’t know if I saw it mentioned in the article, but Buccee’s is great not only for the bathrooms and food, but you’ll find signs all over showing exactly what you’ll get paid for working there. And for a gas station, the wages seem pretty good.

You don’t see other gas stations posting their wages for every customer to see is all I’m sayin’. All the way up to general manager showing they make something like $150k+.

I worked at a brand new Sheetz when I was in college. We started out great, but once the scheduling software took over, it went to crap fast. Cleaning was side work, so it was always rushed, if you had any time at all. Since the restrooms were mostly unattended, they quickly got disgusting (and I swear some people take perverse pleasure in where they could smear their poo). People would order food, wait 10 minutes, and walk out as we would get too busy to keep up. We had a bakery section that started great, but went to crap because no one had time to bake.

Buc-ee’s seems well staffed, including dedicated staff to keep the bathrooms clean. There is dedicated staff for the brisket. There is dedicated shelf stockers. It’s amazing how stuff will get and stay popular when you actually have staff to serve customers.

Buc-ees is life. One of the best parts of a road trip.
