And it was designed to be a long range exploration vessel so it makes sense.

But it also has a new untested holodoc and computer and warp nacelle config.

So new long range outside space station repair range and new untested config. Great plan overall.

In Prodigy, the USS Protostar has a vehicle replicator that it uses to print shuttles on demand. The Intrepid class was fairly resilient and self-contained, so it’s a fair assumption it would have something similar, but we never see one on screen or even directly mentioned.

it’s entirely possible; I personally don’t remember and I can’t find a hard reference in Memory Alpha on any relevant pages (industrial replicator, vehicle replicator, Intrepid class, uss voyager). Most of the memory alpha references are in DS9.

DS9’s runabouts appeared to be named by Sisko, as they had some off-hand conversations about what they were naming their replacements. So for whatever it’s worth, he got a say in it after they were already built.

He never did run out of Earth rivers to name them after

I don’t know if I’m just crazy or not but I’m pretty sure you can’t replicate shuttles like other things because of their complexity, otherwise they could just make a jumbo replicator and pump out starship after starship

You are right, but also wrong. They cant replicate complicated things, but they can replicate parts of complicated things, and then professionals can assemble them. They reference it a few times. They talk about it when they need a new energy source because they are short on supplies, more than just food is mentioned. That and the delta flyer. They assemble to a degree but parts are replicated and assembled. Otherwise they would care about a lot more things than just energy and fuel in the delta quadrant. I think there are a few things that don’t qualify, like the warp coils for the entire starship. But even then they can make shitty coils for shuttles I’m pretty sure.

I may be crazy but I feel like there’s a scene in enterprise where they are getting repaired at a Starbase and they show a panel get like replicated/transported to place and then it’s bolted or welded in after. They do mention that replicators and transporters are almost the exact same a few times so it’s hard to tell.

God damnit it’s kinda embarrassing how much I know about Star Trek. I use the show as a coping mechanism lol.

Edit: oh shit gel packs too, they couldn’t replicate new gel packs.

Yeah I think assembling makes sense but I think the things like the computers and other similarly-complicated equipment can’t be replicated (not sure but I think I remember them saying that) so they’d have to manufacture them in another way which would increase the amount of effort needed to fully replace a shuttle especially since they seem to lose them weekly

I could be completely wrong though. I know a lot about Star Trek but certainly not everything (nowhere close lol)

I think the idea is large and complex. There’s plenty of episodes where they use replicators to make guns with complex digital optics on them, mini transporters, tricorders, medicines, phasers, farming equipment e.t.c.

I just went and cheated and checked the wiki and yeah they start out with no replicators to make ships or shuttles, but then in DS9 they introduce industrial replicators that print large parts. But still just parts. So I guess with Voyager it’s like, as long as it doesn’t get absolutely obliterated you can probably print parts and repair it.

They literally built a shuttle in a couple weeks as an episode. And that was a highly advanced one they built from scratch.

They could absolutely manufacture a few more standard models with less of a time constraint.

I meant like just getting a massive replicator and cranking starships/shuttles in one go lol

With the Delta Flyer though did they make new stuff for it or did they take some existing parts from somewhere, since I vaguely remember something or someone somewhere saying complicated things like computers and such couldn’t be replicated

I’d imagine the complicated components would have to be assembled manually, but they could definitely replicate larger components, say for the main body frame.
