I’m actually kind of surprised that the means of production being owned by the population is a controversial view.

Not that surprising when capitalists have had unlimited funds to spread propaganda for the past 2 centuries

And there was a period not too long ago where anyone with these kinds of ideas was rounded up and openly murdered. Kind of disincentivizes breaking the status quo.

The means of production are owned by the population. The communists wants to take it away, and give it to the “collective”. To make sure nobody owns anything anymore.

No, that’s not really true. The means of production are owned by a very small group of people, not by the population.

It’s a weird between area really. A significant portion of people own a small stake in the means of production and a small portion of people own a large stake in them. Our stake isn’t the sort where we get a real say in how it’s run, theirs is. We’re taught that since we have a few stocks we should be very concerned with the stock market but we’re more impacted by pro consumer and pro worker policies than pro stockholder policies even for stocks we own.

The wealthier you are the more of the means of production you control, and they keep the system going so that it’s hard to buy more of it for those with little.

Also the means of production are not personal property. We aren’t saying individuals shouldn’t own anything. Owning your residence is something that should be debated, but owning your bicycle and your bed and your hobby equipment is important. Rent everything is a capitalist goal, not a communist one.

Yeah, I know how it works. Didn’t need a long winded explanation.

The population? Or the 1% of capital owners?

          Workers, or the government?
