Struggling with federation and sync issues on lemmy.world the past few days, apparently the update is expected to fix most of the problems. Anyone have a clue when version 0.18.1 is expected to release?

When it’s ready. Lemmy devs have been overloaded recently, so we should be patient with them.

However, I believe the main feature of 18.1 is captchas. Captchas were merged 3 hours ago, and captcha-related bugs were being worked on 2hrs ago. So, probably pretty soon.

Sorry, I don’t have the answer specifically. However, I’ve got a tip! In other threads, people recommended using the mobile version of the website instead of Jerboa (at least while they’re sorting out our instance). I installed the site as a PWA (the “add to home screen” option in your browser) and it’s been fairly usable. The scrolling is still a problem, but overall a better experience.

Well darn. Yea I’ve got like 4 lemmy apps installed on my android so that’s not the issue, my problem is the posts and comments I’m making appear to have 30% chance of actually being visible outside my instance. Doesn’t matter what app I use (or if I use desktop version). Anyhow thanks for the response, hopefully they’ll have the 0.18.1 update ready by July 1st when the next wave of refugees is likely to arrive.

I’ve been very vocal that the project GitHub page and release notes are not reflecting these data loss problems.

hopefully they’ll have the 0.18.1 update ready by July 1st when the next wave of refugees is likely to arrive.

There are issues rooted in SQL database being overloaded by the amount of data being touched and the Rust API application and federation running into timeout/resource issues. I think users have backed off somewhat from the peaks in recent weeks. Lemmy.ml was crashing this morning (USA) for 15 minutes. Inner performance problems are still an issue with activity and growing data in 0.18.1

From the devs to the admins to me:

About a week. The first Release Candidate was tested today, but was found wanting. Timetable remains mostly unchanged.
