A portion of the former Fresh Kills landfill in Staten Island has been turned into parkland and the soil will be replenished by composted human feces flushed from a solar-powered restroom.

Mayor Eric Adams heralded the dung-filled development during a groundbreaking ceremony at the former home of the world’s largest garbage dump on Sunday.

    As a transplant to the island, I’m excited for this project. I wish I had a bike (and time to ride) to check out the paths.

    If this comes as a surprise to people I have bad news about septic systems.

    Its interesting because its composted but yeah poop doesn’t vanish, it biodegrades and composting accelerates the process. Composting toilets have been a thing for a while.
