After 19 years on Linux, I usually get really annoyed when I have to use Windows. Inconsistent UI, crap way of installing and updating applications, etc. And by now, some applications on Linux are just way more powerful than their Windows counterparts.
Same, I switched to Linux from Windows 3.11. It’s hard going back whenever I find myself on something else. I even bought a Mac once. That didn’t last long.
Yep, you are an actual fossil, lol 😂.

I would never suggest Linux to anyone who I wouldn’t trust as a desktop administrator, or who I wouldn’t be able to be the system administrator for.
Linux gives you a lot of freedom if you’re a developer and a lot of freedom as system administrator, but users always need help and I’m usually better dumping those people off on the Genius Bar.
Is it possible to report a post for personally attacking me?
I just want to play games! When Linux can run anything windows can run you better believe I’m dumping Gates at the gate and partying with the penguins!
Unfortunately, 100% parity will likely never happen, especially if people wont just use it regardless of less than perfect compatibility. Devs keep making games with functions that refuse to work on linux and/or refusing to support it or provided compatibility layers, and windows keeps breaking shit that old games rely on to work making linux compatibility with old titles better than windows.
just depends on what you’re trying to playing. personally I almost never play any multiplayer games any more and I dont feel like im missing out on anything. i’ve been daily driving linux for a few years now and leaving my reliace on windows in the past has been very nice.
just comes down to your priority, I suppose. my priority is my system first, games seconds. If your system is games first, system second, then linux may not be for you yet… but I would still recommend learning to use it, be familiar with it should the time come that microsoft does something that is an absolute deal breaker for you.
I can tell you one thing though. Wine has better Windows backwards compatibility than Windows ever had, lol 😂. The irony…
There are good things and bad things about any platform. It’s mostly about what you’ve become comfortably numb with. I hate that I have to dive into cli and dig up esoteric commands and séances to fix Linux issues I’ve had. And I hate the direction MS is taking Windows. And I hate almost everything apple does aside from their defense of privacy.
Cuz you look really weird with that little face on your… face.
no adobe though
Well, if people decide to lock themselves into eco systems like the one Adobe provides… Not saying GIMP (for instance) has 1:1 feature parity or anything. Not at all. But to me, those are just tools to get work done. And I can use a slightly different tool just fine, even if it’s a little rough around the edges.
But I’m a programmer and systems administrator, not a designer.
is there a decent premiere pro alternative on linux? I need a powerful video software to work on. Been thinking on building a second pc and might give linux a chance.
Davinci Resolve.
Good.
But seriously, I never used Adobe back when I still used Windows at home. How many people are professionel enough to actually need Photoshop?
u know adobe is a lot more than just photoshop right?
Same difference. Most people don’t need any of those applications.
i care because i use some of them
If you’re into pro video editing and animation, you have to switch software if on Linux. If that’s too complicated, requires too much time or you can’t get any plugins for the software you use, than yes, Linux is not for you.
But, let’s face it, for your every day Joe, Linux is just fine.
Meeeh… depends, you can have some Adobe products on it with Wine.
I’ve never needed any of the Adobe stuff, so I’m good, thank you.
