This is the most original name they could come up with this guy…
Scientific name isn’t any better. Strix nigrolineata just means owl with black lines.
Zebra Owl, Newsprint Owl, Bandit Owl, Masked Owl
What name would you have given this owl?
Thats a damn good bird
Couldn’t agree more!
Have you been here for a while now, or did you follow me in from that other crazy thread with that one guy downvoting everyone? 😮💨 I saw your name a few times over over there.
What? What other thread?
I just follow the owl sub for the owl pictures
The thread about zoos being bad. Not that you were the person fighting with everyone, I thought you were one of the ones they were fighting with like they were with me too.
I was just curious if you had seen me mention my posts over there and were new or if you had been coming here for a while already. Sorry if I was confusing!
Ooooh lolol that thread
Eh I dont overly hold it against them, they have no experience or knowledge about macrobio, and so they think zoos are non human torture prisons. I kinda get why they make the mistake, even if I wished they didnt.
Tbh I have a hard time tracking usernames in lemmy due to the user/server thing. Im sure Ill get better with that the longer I use it
Yeah, it’s ok to not understand, it’s just frustrating when someone is that close minded intentionally and makes bad faith arguments.
Lemmy does have a lot of peculiarities for sure! I’ve just been back and forth between that thread and here today, so your name stood out to me when you commented.
Continue enjoying the owls. I’m about finished drafting a post on feathers I’ll put up this weekend like the last mega post about talons.
superb 👍
That is definitely a fitting title for this magnificent bird!
This one? I will call him Jeff. Nice looking little guy(?) 👍
And thanks for the lovely pics, u/anon6789
I could see this being a Jeff.
Not sure the gender of this one.
I’m glad you like it. I try to get a good mix of owls in here. I’m almost done the primarily US based owls, but even so I try to get ones from all over the world.
Antarctica is the only place without owls. Everywhere else, from the middle of nowhere to the biggest cities have owls tucked away somewhere!

I love the bold contrasting colors. It really makes them all pop. With the sleeker head shape and the orange beak and feet, it does kinda resemble a parrot. I think that bright beak makes it look longer than in most other owls too.
It’s so much fun discovering all these neat birds I never would have heard of otherwise.
