A few updates ago Pop started nagging me to accept firmware updates. My layman’s reading of the release notes is that it’s a Microsoft package that can block boot based on an ever-increasing number of packages they don’t like.

Is it safe to take an update like this? Unlike a kernel change, I don’t know how to recover if this goes wrong.

    Yes, it’s safe. Recommended too.

It’s really funny, because I am usually super unphased by attempting upgrades or doing standard updates. But I’ve been sitting on these as well. I can’t afford to brick my machine or troubleshoot anything right now.

It also says something “scary” about may cause issues with windows boot media which is something I don’t want to deal with if that means I screw up the windows partition or bitlocker.

I did install it on my laptop and it went fine. On my PC it keeps nagging me, but it also fails to install it. So, I’m the opposite of you now. I really want to install this so the notification goes away, but it can’t be installed.
