8 minutes of B-roll stock footage really does it for me.

Thanks for the heads up. I skipped the video and just googled the project, it actually sounds pretty cool. 1.6km deep bore with all of the head works hidden ~45m below ground, you can’t see any of the mine beyond a farm building from nearby on the surface. There’s a 37km conveyor system for moving the mined product to the shore to load on ships too, the whole project is massive. Their main product is mineral fertilizer for organic farming too, which is awesome.

I hope The B1M does a video about this mine, then it’s not just a Reader’s Digest style article read over stock footage :)

    Tldr from note gpt

    • 🌍 The United Kingdom’s natural resources reserves have received a significant boost with the discovery of a valuable, unknown mineral called polyhalite.

    • 💰 This mineral is predicted to add $130 billion to the country’s economy over the next 50 years and has the potential to address the depleting natural resources and weakening exports.

    • 🔍 The Woodsmith mine, where polyhalite is being extracted, is almost invisible and located 50 meters or more below ground, hidden behind large farming barns.

    • 🌱 Polyhalite is a high-quality, organic fertilizer that contains potassium, sulfur, magnesium, calcium, and micronutrients, making it an ideal solution for crop nutrition problems.

    • ⛏️ The construction of the Woodsmith mine involved impressive engineering marvels, including a service shaft, diaphragm walls, a winding tower, and a 37-kilometer-long transport tunnel.

    • 🚆 The mineral is transported from the mine to the Materials Handling facility in Wilton via a tunnel 360 meters below ground, featuring the longest conveyor belt in the world.

    • 🚢 The final product, called Poly4, is transported to the Teesport for storage and export, with a purpose-built port being constructed to meet the expected high demand.
