I haven’t played all of them, so I’m still evaluating my choices ;)

    1. FFX by a lot. The story, setting, music, and turn-based battle just can’t be beat for me. (Just X here; X-2 feels too different and I don’t care for it.)
    2. FFXII. The setting is awesome, the open world feels amazing to explore, and the gambit system is original and fun.
    3. FFVII Remake. I somehow managed to miss the iconic FFVII, and decided to go into Remake blind—it’s fantastic so far, and I’m excited for the next one.
    4. FFXIII and FFXIII-2. Another fantastic setting, and the story is great (although I had to read every datalog entry multiple times to understand it). The paradigm system that shifts battle focus from individual actions to large-scale strategy is unique and interesting. Sadly, FFXIII-3’s writing took a nosedive IMO, and FFXIII-2 ends on a cliffhanger, so the series feels unfinished.
    5. FFVIII. It’s weird, but it’s cute, and I had fun watching the story get crazier and crazier. I don’t love the drawing system for magic, so battle isn’t my favorite.

Last, I’m only a few hours in, but I can already tell FFXVI is going to be on this list, probably near the top!

This is pretty close to my list.

FFX is one of my favorite games of all time. Not just my favorite FF game.

XII has maybe my favorite semi-open world roaming of any game. Really top notch.

I’d swap VIIR for Crisis Core. I never cared for VII or most of the characters (Cait Sith is baller though). Crisis Core really hits all the marks though. Truly a fantastic game.

XIII has some of my favorite characters and character interactions. Every time an Eidolon is created, shit gets real. XIII-2 took the okay combat of XIII with monster capturing, inserted low-key one of the best villains and made a hell of a game. LR has some really fun real time combat as well with some interesting mechanics, some of which worked while others didn’t. Story is not an emphasis.

Finally, my favorite to replay being VIII. It’s fun, quirky, and there’s about a million different ways to play it. You can get OP by playing cards, you can draw all of your magic, you can refine your magic, you can card all of your enemies to avoid leveling up. Whatever you want to do is fine. (p.s. drawing all of your magic is not needed.)

My first FF Game was the Sequel to 12: Revenant Wings on DS! For sure, it’s completely different gameplay, but I’m looking forward to play 12 next Weekend. :3

6, 9, 10 and tactics have a special place in my heart. I’m slowly going through 16 and absolutely loving it so far I wonder if it’ll join this list soon.

I missed a lot of entries in the series but I do love FF6 and FF7 (the original one) the most. I played the remake and while it is a masterpiece in itself I am not a fan of the battle system.

FFIX will always hold a special place in my heart for being the first one I played and all the way through and is my top favorite. FFIV and FFVI are also favorites of mine. FFXIV too, if it counts despite being an MMO. I want to finish getting through FFXII, and start the Tactics series eventually.

it’s hard to have only one over the others…

FF8 was my 1st Final Fantasy so it has a special place in my heart and that ending that mindfucked me but I find it hard to replay it today. It’s watching the cinematic of hydra exploding a wall on a friend computer that pushed me to the franchise. It was so incredible to think at that time it was a game cinematic, not a movie…

FF6 is probably the one I replayed the most, I find everything almost perfect

FF9 has the most jaw droping cinematic when a certain character reach trance (definitely the cinematic that made me love that character). Thanks to that cinematic I really love that character and by extension the whole game

and in FF14 I have my best memories because I played it with my friends

Either FF9 or FF14 would be my choices, too.

To everyone else, don’t write off the quality of FF14 just because it’s an MMO.
