Interesting article. Honestly, it’s fascinating seeing these major industry players having to answer questions outside of the realm of their usual short PR bits

I think consumers love game pass, though. I know I sure do.

yeah! I’m a huge fan too, I’ve been beating that drum since it first dropped. It’s great for indies and day 1 AAA accessibility, honestly. I’ve played so many more new releases in the last few years than I had in the decade prior to that option, and I try way more indie games than I used to since they’re (generally) shorter and there’s so many available. It’s been so good for exploring new titles and genres that I probably never would’ve if I actually had to buy those games outright before getting to try them.

Like, I just 100%'d Chorus before it left game pass the other day - I really loved it, decent writing, sympathetic main characters, and some of the best dogfighting/flying I’ve ever experienced in any space game. Now that’s a game I’m going to be super interested in any DLC or sequel for, and it’s something I would’ve only maybe (but probably not) tried years down the line when I could buy it cheap, if not for game pass.

If Sony claims publishers hate Game Pass, why did Sony create PS Plus Premium? I’m pretty sure i’ve seen articles before from some studios/indie devs saying Game Pass was beneficial to their game compared to it not being on it.

Tbf PS+ extra/premium is just rebranded & expanded PS Now which existed long before Game Pass

Game Pass has also made playing games with my partner easier and cheaper. Now the cost of a game isn’t factored in as much if we want to try out a multilayer game.

I feel Sony’s take on Game Pass is similar to how Blockbuster saw Netflix in the early days.

yeah, that’s true actually. me and mine both have the full 3 years bought out with the gold conversion, same with a few friends - it’s really nice when a new multiplayer or co-op game hits, and we all know we just have it unlocked immediately, no worrying about who’s in a place where they can actually spend 90CAD (or whatever new games are up to now) at the drop of a hat on it
