I get too excited when talking others and tend to chase the rabbit so to speak. I’ll join a conversation and by the end I’ve pretty much taken over with whatever I’m talking about and I feel like it overwhelms others. Yall have this issue?

Yep it’s easy to get excited. The trick for me is that I’ve explicitly learned to consciously hold back too let others speak. People both like talking themselves but also you’ll appear more considerate.

Yes, so I make a conscious effort to avoid interrupting, which then causes me to lose focus on what they’re saying. By the time it’s my turn to speak, I’ve unintentionally checked out of the conversation and try to piece together what they said based on the last few words that my brain hasn’t dumped yet.

I have tried FOR YEARS to make a conscious effort to stop interrupting, especially at work on conference calls, but I really haven’t found anything that works. (That don’t involve checking out / forgetting what I wanted to add) Interested to hear if others have. I WANT to be respectful but I get so excited when an idea pops in. I spend the day repeating “I’m so sorry, I thought you were finished, please continue!”
