My Death Guard Huntsman kitbash. Decided on the OG “bone armor” look from Heresy Death Guard. I’ve painted the surrounding bits, now it’s time to paint bone.

[ETA] Yes, my phone camera is a potato. Sorry.

Pulled an Ironclad Dreadnought from the eBay rescue pile to try the scheme again.

Too many Blood Angels without having a Chaplain so I had to address that situation.

Looks better than the version I painted.

I’m not suggesting that Blood Angels are closet Khorne worshippers (after all, look at all those Librarians), but this guy has a suspicious amount of trim for a loyalist.

I had an idea and ran with it. One night test mini, got through to shading and basing (it’s still wet in this picture) to see how it could work.

C&C welcome as I puzzle though. I’ll probably try to cover up the removal of the left hand from the gun with a green stuff wrap next time. That looks rougher than I would like.

Feudal guard is a cool look. https://scratch-that.org/2023/05/27/feudal-imperial-guard-by-meeveshobby/

What will this guy be, an Imperial Navy breacher? Or a stormtrooper? Something like that.

In terms of paintjob, I’m the anti-contrast paint guy, but I think you made it work on the leather and wood. I will say that for the metal armor I’d still recommend traditional metallic paint and black wash. I’ve really fallen in love with how easy the Vallejo Mecha color metallics are to apply. People really sleep on how good they are. While metallic and then blackwash might seem more time consuming I think it saves time on the backend by reducing the cleanup needed, since you can push the wash around while it’s wet and really work it into recesses and away from flat surfaces.

The lasgun paintjob im kind of half and half on. I understand how hard it is to quickly lay down reds. I’d recommend at least a very gentle drybrush of a hot orange (something like GW Trollslayer) on the corners. Really orange drybrushing applied just a little bit really brings out reds.

The rest of his colors are pretty subdued which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Subdued grunts can make leaders and special units stand out.

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ve been impressed with all the Vallejo paints I’ve used so far, but never tried the metallics. I’ll pick up a bottle of the Mecha color.

Troll slayer is bold! I had some Wild Rider lined up but I’ll grab someone even brighter and try pushing the highlights further.

I figure this squad will be kitted as shock troops. Although I reserve some artistic license around the edges because the banner needs to be used even if Shock Troops don’t get to take a Standard. Maybe I can swap that guy out later if I do a Command Squad.

When I say a gentle application of shock orange I mean gentle. The youtuber fad of using makeup brushes isn’t a lie. I picked up some cheap ones and they are great for doing light and precise application.

A banner trooper is a must for a feudal force.

Starting a big one. I’ve always avoided big mechs and tanks, but it’s time to try one out.

    So far, he has pants!

      Any specific scheme?

He’ll be a Blood Angel if all his right. The trick, if I can pull it off, is that I don’t want anything too chapter specific on the arms/weapons so I can swap them around if I do other torsos in other styles and have enough different arm combos.

Put the badging on its torso. Doing the arms in a mostly metallic (in a checkerboard with black if you’re feeling saucy) can make them “chapter agnostic”.

Hazard stripes is another good option and yellow goes super nicely with red.

                I like that idea too!

My straight line free hand isn’t up to it so I may lay down the black for now and cont back to the yellow when I have some tape to help me out.

In the meantime, can anyone offer any help? The Flesh Tearers Contrast acted weird on this guy’s left panels compared to everywhere else.

When first applied it acted like it was going on a hydroponic surface instead of primer and, once it did stick, it left the brush marks you can see here.

I’ve been doing a 3:1 ratio with contrast medium, but it is the later half of the pot.

Too much paint? Too much medium? Something weird on the brush or on the mini?

                  Looking good like that.

Honestly I’d just leave them black, trying to paint yellow stripes over black will send you mad.
