I migrated over and wanted to now play an active role in the community. Yay! Im trying to post some pottery but my pictures are rotated wrong once uploaded. Is there an easy way to fix that? Of course the phone has it oriented differently!
I had this issue earlier. I discovered that if I opened the image I wanted to share in am editing program (Photoshop, Snapseed, whatever) and saved it without changing anything, then the image would post here correctly.
Bit of a pain to have to make a copy, but it works so far. By the way, just copy pasting the file did not work for me, it had to be a new save.
Images can be rotated in two ways, either by actually rotating the content of the image or by changing an EXIF tag called “Rotation”.
EXIF information seems to be removed when uploading an image to Lemmy, which is a good thing, because sometimes the EXIF data can include quite personal information like GPS coordinates, but it would be better if this specific EXIF data could be kept.
