Game came out 5 years ago this month, this is definitely a case of expired licenses for some of the music.

I feel like asking for people understanding should be accompanied with an explanation because I have no Idea reading this of the why they would discontinue it.

My best guess is that the music sold in the game is licensed, and that agreement is ending. Some license holders just aren’t very agreeable to extended sale.

That would make sense and if it was part of the communication I would understand. Sadly it’s really up to our guess

My guess is that they are held hostage by a group of evil badgers who want to turn a profit by reselling the base game

When a license agreement like this ends, I think there’s a lot of issues with putting out a statement that throws anyone in particular under the bus. Could negate the chance of a future renegotiation.

As I have played the base version on multiple platforms, I can definitely confirm that there is licenced music in the game. Or at least music that I strongly believe is licensed.

Funny thing is they aren’t stopping the sale of DLC, so not sure what the base game has that DLC doesn’t, which is making them stop selling it.

Could it be some kind of licensing issue?

I bought the box set for this game which came with a cartridge a couple years ago. Good thing I’ve got that, now, welp.

Not really, the Switch Taiko games work with either button presses or gyroscope. But Hori does have a taiko drum controller that was bundled with the box set in Asia and Europe. For some reason it’s harder to get the drum in America.

I wish I could feel anything as strongly as the amount Bandai Namco hates it when people play Taiko no Tatsujin. Especially the arcade machines, I feel like they’d lay down their lives rather than allow a Taiko machine to reach American soil.

For all the talk the Japanese gov’t makes of using pop culture like anime, manga and video games to introduce people to other more traditional parts of Japanese culture (such as taiko), Japanese gaming companies sure aren’t buying into it. Oh no, someone’s eating an onigiri! Quick, make it a doughnut before it gets to the West!

Do I need to download the game or will I be able to redownload it?

It seems you will be able to re-download it, as well as buy DLC later on.
