Overall the game is OK, but it seems that the environment is kind of boring compared to Metroid Prime 1. But maybe it is just nostalgia. What are your thoughts?

If you agree, do you think they did a better job in Prime 3? I’ll play that next.

I found the dark world very tedious, from what I remember. One aesthetic throughout the whole game that was very dreary to look at. Has been many years since I played it though.

I’m starting to really hate the dark world. After the first armor upgrade, you hardly take damage in the dark work. You also get that update really early on, so what is the point of making you take damage in the first place?

The game feels like it was rushed and uninspired.

I’ve decided to drop it and just move on to MP3.

I think this is a problem with any sequel to a game that features multiple biomes as locations. Metroid Prime had a lot of distinct locations: a volcano, an icy ruins, abandoned villages and temples, a crashed ship/underwater section, etc. So if when making a sequel, you have to consider if reusing these types of areas will make it feel too much like the original.

I do agree that the environment of Metroid Prime 2 is kind of bland, but there are at least some distinct parts I can remember, like the swampier area, or the dessert. I prefer that to every game being a march through the same cookie cutter areas every time.

I see what you’re saying, but I still think the environment feels uninspired. I’m guessing I’m about halfway through the game. I’ve just got the grapple beam. I’m looking forward to finishing it so I can move on. It’s enjoyable enough to keep me playing, but I don’t look forward to it the same way that I look forward to a prime 1 replay.

I remember reading an interview with the devs when MP2 came out that they wanted the areas to feel less “video-gamey”, where you had a fire level, an ice level, etc, and wanted more natural biomes. I feel like they were successful, and despite the reuse of the world through Dark Aether, it feels varied and interesting.
