Thankfully there is healthy competition in this space with Jellyfin.

I switched from Plex to Emby years ago and never looked back.

Not shocked that the FAST model has unpredictable revenue downturns. But I was surprised to read that Plex has roughly 175 employees - that seems way, way higher than I would have expected.

You need all those employees to make additions to your code like arcade addons… then to deprecate them less than a year later… rinse and repeat.

Yeah, I always forget that Plex thinks it’s an actual business. If it goes away, I’ll finally switch over to Kodi.

Knew buying the “lifetime” membership would be a mistake, and forcing you to use an Internet login for your local media was another red flag. Glad I noped out

Eh, I won’t miss them. I have a Plex lifetime sub but I switched to Jellyfin long ago over privacy concerns. Plex was also a super bitch to get working across multiple vlans on the home network. Jellyfin just works.

Love my Plex media server but I also have my jellyfin server set up just in case.

      This is where I’m at.

Due to the clients Plex is more convenient for my users but most of them would buy a cheap device that would maintain their access if I swapped.

In the long run I’m expecting to do it but right now Plex suits my use case better.
